-
The
Welsh Mountain Pony is native to the hills of Wales with a
history that goes back thousands of years.
- Their
affinity for children makes them fine 'first ridden'
mounts. They excel in any equine discipline and progress
with their little owners to the small hunter jumper
division.
- Welsh Mountain
Ponies are
at home in harness and may be seen in all facets of
driving from pleasure to CDE's, with their dressage, cones
and marathon events.
- Height limit is 12 hands (48 inches)
in the UK and 12.2 hh in
the US and Canada.
- They provide the
gene pool for all four sections of the Welsh breed.

* Friars
Blodwen
Outstanding Mountain Pony type. Bob Owen of Friar's says she
is the best filly he ever exported. Her line bred daughter,
West Abbey Bracken, says it all. |
 |
|
* Friars
Cantores
Another lovely import, produces fine athletic foals. They
are beautiful, affectionate and eager to please. |
 |

|
Dhonachaidh
Dunvegan
An outstanding Canadian bred mare by Ardmore Whirlwind. She
has consistently produced quality for us. Her yearling son
West Abbey Tyconnett has his future planned as a driving pony
and her daughter, West Abbey Acorn is the boss of the young
broodmares. |
 |
The
Older Ladies
We are specially proud of our senior mares who have produced
the young broodmare band. These mares now live in retirement,
producing the occasional foal and enjoying an extremely lazy
and affluent life. |
|
Berreth's
Spice Lady
Now 27, a lovely bay with a career as a driving pony behind
her, has given us West Abbey Sapphire, among others, and now
lives out
her days between the feed shed and the porch.
Several of BC's well known Welsh Mountain Ponies are her
children and grand children. |
 |
|
Robyn's
Grey Princess
Known as Tinker, (or Stinker) is another of our senior
citizens. Mother of West Abbey Seven, she has been a driving
pony. She came to us at about five months old,
twenty-five years ago. One of the daughters of the great Jet
Arrows Oregon Spring she has more brains than any pony
deserves. He antics are a continual source of amusement. |
